General contracting is the building side of Bedrock Excavation and General Contracting. We build shops, carports and other outbuildings on home lots and acreage across the Lower Yakima Valley. We also build fences and gates, decks and pergolas. One recent job was a 20 by 30 three-bay carport.
Most builds start in the dirt, and that part is ours too. Site preparation clears and levels the ground first. Then we build the shop pad or concrete slab the structure sits on. Call or text (509) 439-2533, and we will look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Tell us about the teardown, dirt work, pad or building project and where it is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
A shop building keeps equipment or a camper out of the summer sun and the winter freeze. We build shops and other outbuildings for homeowners and for farm and orchard owners. If an old barn or shed stands in the way, our demolition work takes it down first.
A carport does the same job with open sides. One carport we built stands on wood posts under a metal roof. Its size comes down to what parks underneath and how many bays you need.
Shade matters here. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Sunnyside show about 45 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter. A carport keeps that sun off a truck or a camper.
In most cases, yes. Outside city limits, Yakima County exempts a small shed only if it meets every condition on its list. A shed over 200 square feet needs a permit. So does any carport or garage, and any building that stores vehicles or farm equipment.
Inside city limits, start with the city's building department. On county ground in Benton or Franklin County, ask Benton County Building or Franklin County Building. The owner or the contractor applies there, and we point you to the right office.
That office also sets the design numbers a building must meet, like the snow load a roof must carry. Yakima County sets them parcel by parcel. Wiring a shop is an electrician's job. Yakima County leaves electrical permits to the state Department of Labor and Industries.
As a fence contractor, we build fences and gates for home lots and acreage. One job ran almost 400 feet of fencing. Another was ranch fence with wire panels, set along a dirt slope.
Fence rules change at the city line. Inside Sunnyside, the city code requires a building permit for any fence over six feet tall. In a front yard setback, a fence can be no taller than four feet. Outside city limits, Yakima County exempts fences up to seven feet, though zoning approval may still apply.
We also work as a deck builder, and we build pergolas too. A pergola puts some shade over a patio or a corner of the yard. Outside city limits in Yakima County, a roofless deck up to 30 inches above the ground needs no building permit. The county lists pergolas, rafters only, under that same exemption.
Call or text for a written quote. We work about 50 miles around Sunnyside across the Yakima Valley and the Tri-Cities.

Call or text (509) 439-2533 about the job. Let us know where the property is and what you need done.
We look over the site and the ground. We check the access, and what has to come out or come in.
You get a written quote that spells out the work. The job goes on the schedule when you say go.
Before any digging starts, a locate request goes to 811 so buried utility lines get marked. Washington law calls for it two to 10 full business days ahead.
We do the work the quote describes and haul off what has to go. The ground is left ready for what comes next, like a crop or a shop.

We cut and fill large sites and move dirt in bulk for shops and commercial buildings. Extra dirt leaves by the load, and we haul in fill or gravel when a site runs short.

We clear and strip the lot, then rough grade it and dig for the foundation. After the foundation is poured, we backfill around it.
