Site Preparation
We clear and strip the lot, then rough grade it and dig for the foundation. After the foundation is poured, we backfill around it.

Mass excavation is earthwork on a big scale: large cuts and fills that reshape a whole site. Bedrock Excavation and General Contracting does this work for shops and commercial sites. We take dirt off the high ground and place it on the low ground until the grades are right. When a site has extra dirt or runs short, we haul dirt and gravel in or out ourselves.
Sunnyside sits at the center of our service area, and we work about 50 miles around it. That reaches Yakima and the Tri-Cities, and bigger mass excavation jobs farther out in Washington are quoted on request. Smaller digging jobs fall under our excavation work in the Sunnyside area. Call or text (509) 439-2533, and we look at the site and put the quote in writing.
Tell us about the teardown, dirt work, pad or building project and where it is. We look at the job and put the quote in writing.
Cut and fill starts with the finished grades the site needs. Topsoil and roots come off first, so the fill rests on firm ground. Then the high ground gets cut down, and that dirt fills the low spots.
Fill goes down in layers, and each layer is compacted before the next one goes on. What goes into the fill matters too. Outside city limits, Yakima County allows dirt and rock as fill, but not tree stumps or asphalt.
When the cut and the fill come out close to even, little dirt has to leave the site. When they do not, the difference gets hauled in or out. The earthwork ends at rough grade, and the site is ready for the building pad.
We work for businesses that need a shop or a commercial site prepared. Commercial excavation shapes the building area and the yard around it to the grades on the site plan.
Yakima County's grading permit asks for a site plan with the existing contours and the finished grades. It also wants the largest cuts and fills, and where any removed dirt will go. The county figures the job's size by adding up the cubic yards of every cut and fill. Inside Sunnyside, the city's commercial checklist asks for a soils report too.
Site excavation for a shop is the first half of the project. When the dirt work is done, we can put up the shop building itself. Utility lines are another trade's work, and they go in once the site is ready.
USDA soil maps show Warden soils under much of the ground around Sunnyside. Warden is deep, well-drained soil: wind-blown silt over old lake deposits. On the slopes north of town, USDA soil data show a cemented hardpan about two feet down in places. In Pasco, the most common soil is Quincy loamy fine sand.
The Benton Clean Air Agency warns that high winds can raise dust from dry, disturbed soil. The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency wants a dust control plan for sites that could raise significant dust. That plan goes to the agency 15 days before work disturbs the soil.
In Benton County, the clean air agency wants a soil destabilization notice before soil-disturbing work starts. The county and its cities ask for a copy before they issue permits. In West Richland, a grading job over 500 cubic yards also needs a SEPA checklist for state environmental review.
Call or text for a written quote. We work about 50 miles around Sunnyside across the Yakima Valley and the Tri-Cities.

Call or text (509) 439-2533 about the job. Let us know where the property is and what you need done.
We look over the site and the ground. We check the access, and what has to come out or come in.
You get a written quote that spells out the work. The job goes on the schedule when you say go.
Before any digging starts, a locate request goes to 811 so buried utility lines get marked. Washington law calls for it two to 10 full business days ahead.
We do the work the quote describes and haul off what has to go. The ground is left ready for what comes next, like a crop or a shop.

We regrade worn gravel driveways and build new ones. We also grade yards and lots so water moves away from the house.

We cut and level building pads for shops, garages, houses and campers, with a compacted gravel base. When you want a concrete slab, we pour that too.
Learn MoreThe company that cuts your pad can also build the carport or shop that sits on it. One call covers both halves of the project.
When a job needs gravel brought in or debris taken out, we haul it on our own trailer. Extra dirt from a cut can go out the same way.
We look at the job before we price it. The quote comes to you in writing, with the work spelled out.
